Homemade Chicken Broth (FTDI)
Why homemade Chicken Broth?
I have a TON of people asking me how to make homemade chicken broth especially because some of my online recipes and my FTDI Meats2u Cookbooks recipes have it in as an ingredient to enhance the flavor of them. So here's how.
NOTE: while you're on the 6wk challenge at The Camp, store bought broth cannot be used and is not FTDI.....homemade only!
Homemade Chicken Broth (FTDI)
MooMoo Jackson Style
Ingredients:
4-6 Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast
1 Roughly Chopped white onion
2-4 Fresh Garlic cloves
2-3 Roughly chopped Celery ribs
*Any other FTDI veggies you'd like to add
Deseeded and roughly chopped jalapeño (optional)
Water (enough to just cover all your ingredients in your pan)
Broth Seasonings (to taste):
Pink Himalayan salt
Black pepper
Any flavor Mrs. Dash
Garlic powder
Onion Powder
Instructions: 1. Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan and stir.
2. Bring to a boil uncovered on med-high heat then reduce the heat to med-low for approx. 45mins-1hour until the chicken is cooked through and the broth becomes flavorful.
3. Once the chicken is all cooked through, strain the broth from your pot and use the chicken broth for whatever recipes you want. Eat the cooked chicken and veggies it made however you'd like.
RECIPE Q&A's:
Q: What should I do with the chicken and veggies that I cooked and strained out of the broth?
A: IDEAS FOR WHAT TO DO WITH THE BOILED CHICKEN IT MAKES:
You can shred it and do anything with it. ...add some Frank's buffalo sauce to it, make shredded chicken tacos, sauté it in brown rice and veggies with liquid aminos and FTDI veggies for stir fry, if you have my first FTDI Meats2u Cookbook called "Healthy Tasty" you can make my FTDI BBQ sauce and stir the shredded chicken up with that and make some sweet potato sliders, basically anything you want to do with it! Be creative!
Q: Can I use a whole chicken to boil? Why?
A: If you are FTDI then you can not use other parts of the chicken besides the breasts, it cannot have skin on it, and there cannot be any bones. The other parts of the chicken, skin, and bones add extra fat and calories to the broth as it cooks so in order to be FTDI it needs to be boneless, skinless chicken breasts only.
Q: How much seasonings should I use? Can I use other seasonings?
A: The seasonings are all to taste. Some people like their broth saltier, spicier, with more garlic flavor or less, etc. You can use any other FTDI seasonings that you'd like.
Q: What can I do with my chicken broth?
A: You can use it in the place of water in lots of recipes that will enhance the flavor. I like to use it to make my brown rice and quinoa instead of water to bring a better flavor to both of those carbs. I have several recipes that call for homemade chicken broth.
Q: Does chicken broth count as a protein portion?
A: No. It's just seasoned water. Don't count it towards your protein portion.
