5 Tips for FTDI Oat Tortilla Portion Success:

By: MooMoo Jackson

#1) OATS ARE WEIGHED DRY/RAW!

Make sure to weigh your Oats DRY and RAW! It's the ONLY FTDI ingredient that we weigh BEFORE cooking!! This is SUPER important!

Note: I see this argument every single day on our Camp's private 6wk Facebook page but this is true: Make your OWN homemade Oat flour by simply grinding up whole oats in a food processor until flour consistency to ensure there are no fillers, or additives, and that it's not processed. Just. make. your. own. oat. flour. It's EASY and LESS EXPENSIVE and you know you're being accurate! (Please don't comment below with your argument about this....these are friendly, helpful tips....but ultimately you're in charge of your own journey to health and can make your own choice).

#2) IMPORTANT TIP: START WITH CORRECT CARB PORTION!!!

Make sure you START my FTDI Oat Tortilla recipe with your correct, FULL CARB PORTION! So, women will start with 2oz of dry oat flour and men will start with 3oz of dry oat flour.

#3) USING OAT FLOUR = ACCURATE CARB PORTION!

The reason I chose to use Oat FLOUR in my FTDI Tortilla recipe is so that we can make sure our carb portion is 100% accurate since we are to weigh it dry/raw before cooking. During your challenge you won't want to use Brown Rice or Quinoa FLOUR because it is very difficult to know if your carb portion is accurate using measurements of those 2 carbs raw. Both Brown Rice and Quinoa are supposed to be weighed AFTER they are cooked IN WATER and the grain is PLUMP (you can't just weigh brown rice or quinoa tortillas after you make them and think that you are getting a correct carb portion....it doesn't work that way). After your challenge, obviously these are both healthy ways to make tortillas if you want to try something other than oats!

***In the meantime, if you want something different, than Oat Tortillas consider making my FTDI 2 INGREDIENT SWEET POTATO FLAT BREAD! It's more like a pita, naan, or roti and is great for FTDI protein and veggie wraps, FTDI flat bread pizza, and can be baked into FTDI Pita Chips (after you make them)! #4) EAT EVERY TORTILLA YOU MAKE WITH YOUR BATTER!

Do not just think to yourself that you only need 2 Oat Tortillas because you "aren't that hungry." You have to consume your FULL carb portion! This means you'll need to eat all tortillas that you make with your carb portion!

Note: I PERSONALLY get THREE corn tortilla sized tortillas with 2oz of oat flour and I get FIVE corn tortilla sized tortillas with 3oz of oats. If you do not want to eat this many tortillas in one sitting then maybe think about making a different carb that you'll be able to fully consume. If you are getting WAY more tortillas then that with your batter then you're making it too watery....use less water (but not too much less or they'll be thick...YUCK).

#5) EGG WHITE IN MY RECIPE INFO:

Regarding the one egg white in my recipe. If you are really worried about it then just leave it out. The only thing that will happen is that they'll be less pliable and will fall apart easier when eating them. The texture and consistency/strength of them is better with the one egg white and that is why I put it in my recipe.

Tip: If you're going to bake them into tostadas or chips then the egg white is not as necessary because the texture or pliability of them won't matter.

However, if you do chose to put the egg white in it you CAN count it if you want to (just subtract it from your protein portion). I personally don't worry about it because unlike carbs, a little bit of extra protein (one egg white) won't hinder our weight loss. Again, this is your journey so you can make that choice.

NOTE: MAKE SURE TO EAT A PROTEIN AND VEGGIE PORTION ALONG with your FTDI Oat Tortillas as a full FTDI meal.

HOPE THESE TIPS HELP! LET'S ENJOY OUR JOURNEY TO HEALTH, BEING CREATIVE WITH OUR FOOD LIST, AND MAKE SURE WE'RE STICKING TO OUR CORRECT PORTIONS AT THE SAME TIME! :)
